Taíno Discovery and Exploration of the Cueva de las Maravillas

Your excursion begins from Bayahibe around 8:00 AM (or 8:30 AM from La Romana) for a morning focused on culture and discovery. Your first stop is the Taíno Museum, where you’ll dive into the history of the island’s first inhabitants through a fascinating collection of artifacts and explanations—an ideal introduction to the indigenous culture of the Dominican Republic.

You will then continue to the Cueva de las Maravillas, one of the most impressive cave tours in the region, famous for its spectacular rock formations and centuries-old Taíno pictographs. The pathway, enhanced by atmospheric lighting, reveals stalactites, stalagmites, and striking natural scenes that make this cave a true hidden gem.

At the exit, you’ll encounter the rhinoceros iguanas, an emblematic species of the tropical wildlife of La Romana. Observing these unique creatures in their protected habitat is a rare and memorable experience.

Tropical Maze: A Fun and Unique Activity in the Dominican Republic

The tour continues with a unique activity: the tropical maze, a fun one-hour experience where everyone tries to find their way through lush green pathways. Both children and adults quickly get into the game as they race to reach the center first — and the winner receives a small gift from Tropical Evasion.

Upon arriving at the heart of the maze, a refreshing welcome drink awaits you to celebrate the moment and enjoy a friendly pause in the middle of nature. It’s a fun and memorable experience, perfect for families, couples, or friends looking for an original activity in the Dominican Republic.

After this pleasant break, it will be time to head back. Around noon, you will leave the maze and begin the return to Bayahibe. On the way, we will stop at a small local chocolate factory, where you’ll learn about the traditional methods of Dominican cacao production. A short explanation and a chocolate tasting are included, with the opportunity to buy a few sweet souvenirs if you wish.

Important note: Guests staying in La Romana will not visit the chocolate factory and will be taken directly back to their hotel late in the morning.

The week-long trip was Top, a good mix of rest on beautiful and little-known beaches and islands and very authentic excursions (very different from mass tourism excursions) and very interesting with Top guides who are both discreet, joyful and very rooted in Dominican life...

We embarked on a one week trip organized by Tropical Evasion with my parents and boyfriend over Christmas. The entire trip was designed by Joy to satisfy all of our (very different!) wishes…food, activities for everyone, relaxation etc. The day trips were all very unique, authentic and fun...

What an unforgettable adventure!! 🤩 Our experience with Joy was amazing! It was able to meet our expectations exactly and quickly, unlike other tour companies who constantly added additional fees to us. Everything was included, we didn't have to pay any extra fees on the spot...
Nicolas G.
Waterfalls, paragliding, kitesurfing, zip lines, buggies... In terms of thrills, we were won over, not to mention the breathtaking landscapes! As a diving enthusiast, our expectations were very high, but what can we tell you other than that we have never done such a perfect dive? The conditions were great, we saw wrecks, holes with a depth of more than 30 meters, fish of all kinds, including starfish, rays, etc...
