From 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., set off on a buggy and quad ride through fields, villages, rivers and forests, ending with a sunset dinner on a traditional boat.
Buggy and Quad Adventure
The adventure begins with a handling session of our all-terrain buggies, perfect for a motorized tour supervised in complete safety by our guides. After a full briefing on the safety instructions, the all-terrain vehicles hit the road toward the vast agricultural fields around Bayahibe… the sugarcane fields.
First stop at the sugarcane weighing, a fascinating moment to discover how it is harvested and weighed before being transported. You’ll have the chance to taste freshly cut sugarcane, all while listening to your guide’s explanations about the importance of this crop in the Dominican Republic.
We then continue our route toward a batey, a typical village where sugarcane workers and their families live. This stop is a special moment to meet the locals and share a unique moment with the children, offering you a true immersion into local life. It will be a touching moment, full of exchanges and smiles with the village children. To make this encounter even more special, you can bring clothes you no longer use, old toys or treats to hand out to the children. A simple gesture that will make all the difference and bring lots of joy!
After this beautiful encounter, it’s time to change rides: we leave the buggies to take the quads, which will allow us to access even wilder and more preserved trails.
Chavón River and local immersion
After this stop in the typical village, you’ll switch rides. Time for certified quads, these powerful four-wheelers that are easy to drive. Whether you hold a driver’s license or are simply a passenger, everything is organized safely, with helmets, gloves, and guidance from our guides.
We hit the road by quad to reach the stunning Chavón River. Here, it’s time to relax: you’ll be able to swim and enjoy the fresh and soothing water of this river surrounded by lush nature.
After this refreshing break, we continue on to a local resident’s home, who will welcome us warmly. We’ll get to taste typical Dominican products, such as cassava, plantain, seasonal fruits… A moment of exchange and discovery around local flavors.
Sunset cruise on the Chavón River
At the end of the day, we leave our quads to board our safari truck, heading to the other side of the Chavón River.
There, a traditional boat awaits us for a peaceful cruise in an enchanting setting.

Do we need to book the buggy tour in advance or can we book it on site?
It is strongly recommended to book in advance. The Buggy Sunset excursion is offered exclusively to small groups of up to 20 people. It is often the case that availability is already fully booked on site.
Should we book this excursion at the hotel or directly with Tropical Évasion?
You can book at the hotel, but these are often standardised half-day excursions. Tropical Évasion offers a unique 9-hour experience, including lunch and a sunset cruise on the Chavón River – a programme you won’t find at hotels.
Why is the price £139 when some buggy tours are offered at £79 in hotels?
The difference lies in the duration and quality of the programme. Hotels generally offer a half-day trip (3 to 4 hours) with a limited itinerary. Here, you can enjoy a full day from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., with buggy + quad biking, local encounters, swimming, aperitif and dinner at sunset on the Chavón River.
Do you need a driving licence to participate?
Yes, you must hold a driving licence to drive the buggy. However, we do not require you to present your licence in person; this is simply a condition to ensure the safety and comfort of everyone.
Can children participate in the excursion?
Yes, from the age of 6 as passengers, accompanied by an adult driver. The excursion is not recommended for younger children.
How many people can fit in a buggy?
Each buggy/quad bike is designed for two people: one driver and one passenger. It is possible to take turns driving during the excursion.
Are the buggies automatic or manual? Is it messy?
The buggies are automatic and very easy to drive. As the excursion takes you along dirt tracks that can sometimes be muddy, it is common to return covered in dust or splashes. But that’s part of the charm of the adventure! To cool off, there is a swimming stop in the middle of the afternoon, followed by a second swim at sunset during the cruise on the Chavón River.
What should you bring for the buggy excursion?
Bring comfortable clothing, flip-flops for driving (or water shoes), sunscreen, mosquito repellent, a swimsuit and a beach towel. Bring a change of clothes for the evening and a light jacket for the return trip in the safari truck, as it can sometimes be cool. If you wish, you can also bring small gifts (school supplies, toiletries, sweets) for the children in the village we visit.

What types of meals and drinks are included in the buggy tour?
The excursion includes several gourmet moments. Around 4:30 p.m., a stop at a local’s home allows you to taste typical products: plantains, cassava chips, salami, seasonal fruits, accompanied by soft drinks and rum.
Dinner is then served on a boat sailing down the Chavón River at sunset. On the menu: assorted salads, Creole rice, chicken in sauce, shrimp, cassava fritters, eggplant fritters, fried chicken, fresh fruit and the famous mamajuana.
Is this buggy tour really off the beaten track?
Absolutely! Unlike traditional buggy tours offered by hotels, which are often limited and touristy, our Buggy Sunset tour takes place in small groups and takes you off the beaten track. You will cross sugar cane fields, discover the work of cane cutters and visit their village to meet the families and understand their way of life. You will also share a typical snack with the locals, before ending the day with a Creole dinner and a sunset cruise on the Chavón River. A unique experience, far from mass tourism.
