Tropical Evasion takes you closer to the locals people during its tours exploring the Dominican Republic. Today, the focus is on a sugar cane cutter in the Altagracia region.
In the Dominican Republic, the sugar cane cutting process typically involves workers using machetes to cut the sugar cane at its base. Once cut, the sugar cane is piled up in heaps in the field. Workers may use carts or other means to transport these piles of sugar cane to loading areas.
After the sugar cane is cut, it is loaded onto trains to be transported to sugar manufacture. In the manufacture, the sugar cane is processed to extract the sweet juice, which is then transformed into sugar. This processing may involve crushing, clarification, evaporation, and crystallization to obtain the final sugar product.
